Oh Nigerian new school music... How I adore thee. But lately... you have been getting on my nerves.
I don't know if all these artist are sharing the same record label (they probably are) but every Nigerian song that has been released after "Pakuromo" by Wizkid has lost the creative touch. I mean, the beats all sound the same, they're all singing about the same thing, the same camera is used for the music video, all the way down to the same edits being used. Although I could never fully give up listening to Nigerian music, (I am Omo Naija for life!), I have been craving something more... original. This music video by TemiDollFace couldn't come soon enough!
I stumbled across this video a few weeks ago while jamming out to the newest Nigerian music. It caught my eye because I have never heard of her before and I'm pretty current when it comes to Naija music. Let's just say I was pleasantly surprised. I've never seen a Nigerian music video so original in my life! Even my mother questioned if she was raised in the States. Whether or not that was the case, I enjoyed listening to her soulful voice and being entertained by this old-fashioned American video. It's unfortunate that she's so underrated and I hope she releases more songs within the next year.
Note: "Pata Pata" in Yoruba means "finished." Not to be confused with the other song called "Pata Pata" by Miriam Makeba.
